*A man Joe's parents admire suffers from a brain disease, degenerates, and is institutionalized.
*The life of Joe's mother, and her youth in Europe. 
*Freddy's illness. 
*Making a deal with god; jogging to prevent Freddy from having cancer.

Synopsis
