Pledge Drive, 2000-08-13 is a program Joe Frank produced as part of the series The Other Side.
Synopsis
A KCRW staffer (Matt Holzman) calls a listener (Grace Zabriskie) to inform her that she's won a trip to Hawaii; she screams when she learns that her sister has died, so her abusive husband (Ryan Cutrona) yells at her to be quiet and beats her. The staffer follows up with them after their travel, but they complain about the trip and continue to fight.
Joe dreams that he's homeless, with a sign that says "will work for food"; a man hires him to perform absurd tasks.
Albert Schweitzer created the first public radio station in Africa and invites Kurtz onto his radio program to debate the nature of existence.
Descriptions of undesirable premiums. A recap of the "A Time On The Beach" story. Rather than taking a trip, imagine an existential journey.
