== Synopsis ==
Continuing Donna’s story from Night Part 1. Donna arrives in LA and meets Kevin at The Circus of Love; they began dating, but never make love. Kevin asks Donna to travel with him.
 
Stories of Turner, an Army pilot in Vietnam. Boom-Boom, the ill-behaved monkey mascot of Turner’s group. The beauty of the country. Turner, after he’s discharged with friend Mike, arrested for selling marijuana; Turner’s altercations with other inmates in jail. After release from jail, he lived in the woods in California; stories about Turner’s mother and father.
 
In winter, Turner visits his sister Carmen, who lives in squalor; Turner becomes a card dealer; observes people who’d worked in sawmills who ultimately amount to nothing. Turner considers suicide. Decides to visit his cousin Andrea in Fullerton who introduces Turner to Matthew.

Andrea is part of a movement led by Matthew who lectures and gives out mantras. Turner is intrigued and impressed by Matthew. He makes moral sense. Matthew conducts a “mind study” on Turner – sees his past lives, aura of present, and his future. Story about Carmen and Roy, her son. Turner visits as she is dying from cancer, ants crawling all over her body. Tales from Turner’s time at the Santa Barbara Cultural Center. Turner becomes Matthew’s personal pilot. The movement breaks down.
Donna meets Kevin, he asks her to run off with him.  Turner is a guy in the army [missing section] who ends up in jail.  There's a regular named Pockets who gets arrested every winter and warns of a cataclysm. Turner gets into a fight with Peruvians. He gets out of jail, lives in a campsite in California.  Description of his parents, his impoverished sister. He works as a bar tender and car dealer. He contemplates suicide, visits a cousin who convinces him to join the Bethel cult lead by Mathew. Turner gets a job as pilot for the cult. The cult falls to bickering, Mathew is accused of crimes, a body is found in his pool.  Kevin takes a gun and sneaks into Mathew's plane.
