Turner, after he’s discharged with friend Mike, arrested for selling marijuana; Turner’s altercations with other inmates in jail. After release from jail, he lived in the woods in California; stories about Turner’s mother and father. | |||
In winter, Turner visits his sister Carmen, who lives in squalor; Turner becomes a card dealer; observes people who’d worked in sawmills who ultimately amount to nothing. Turner considers suicide. Decides to visit his cousin Andrea in Fullerton who introduces Turner to Matthew. | |||
