2021 updates

I added a tool to create Music templates:
TemplateMaker
It creates links to generate templates and categories for songs and artists.

Ramon (talk) 14:45, 3 April 2021 (EDT)

  • I have figured out how to code the Recording Artist pages to dynamically display all their songs and the programs they're used in.Eno's a good one. I am happy with these pages now.

Ramon (talk) 10:46, 30 March 2021 (EDT)

  • Footnotes now display when you mouseover the reference number. This appears to be working inconsistently. It only works on pages with Tables of Contents.
  • Mobile site has been updated to improve category display
  • Added a page to track Music Stubs
  • Also a page with mp3's of some of the unidentified tracks Unidentified_Music mp3s - these mp3s are also accessible from the music stub category. I will continue to add them.

Ramon (talk) 13:22, 28 March 2021 (EDT)

  • I am deleting all commentary sections. I moved all opinion-based commentary to the Discussion tab, and moved fact-based commentary to Miscellanea
  • After I moved most of the commentary I decided I like having the username as a section header for discussions, so I will be adding those back..

Ramon (talk) 16:57, 26 March 2021 (EDT)

  • Added a new template & category for tracking unidentified music. Results can be seen at Category:Music_Stub

Ramon (talk) 11:48, 24 March 2021 (EDT)

  • All the Song category pages now show the related song template and each show the song appears in
  • Recording Artist category pages link to each individual Song category page
  • Cast member category pages now redirect to cast member bio pages
  • The Music Page now purges its cache every hour on the hour
  • The search auto-suggest has been improved. It is no longer case sensitive, but still requires leading articles. Elastic Search cannot be fully implemented due to this being a shared server :(

Ramon (talk) 16:42, 23 March 2021 (EDT)

  • I renamed all the shows which had their articles at the end.
  • I tweaked the dpl output on cast member pages to show more program details
  • Have finished all but one or two stray song music templates
  • Updated the Songs and Recording artists links to go to dpl pages instead of MW Category pages.

Ramon (talk) 12:59, 19 March 2021 (EDT)

  • I updated the search modules and the default "vector" skin today, let me know if anything weird crops up.
  • The Random JF Music button now generates a 10 song YT playlist

Ramon (talk) 16:51, 15 March 2021 (EDT)

  • I have moved the new music page to The_Joe_Frank_Music_Page.
  • And figured out how to keep it from becoming a member of every single music category, which has me ecstatic. Wiki ecstasy.
  • The former music page is still accessible via a link on the Discussion tab (JF Music Page), so we can refer to that data when needed.
  • To refresh the dynamic page after editing a == Music == section just edit & save it.

I cannot find initial air dates for the edits of No Show. I was thinking we could either have them in sequence, in 1986: No Show 2:30 | No Show 1:30 edit | No Show 1hr edit

Or, maybe better yet, we could have one page contain all 3 No Shows by using multiple synopses.

Thoughts?

I made a script to check the music page youtube URLs for dead videos:
I will run it occasionally. And I will try to adapt it to work for the music templates as well. Ramon (talk) 22:55, 7 March 2021 (EST)

← I added a button that will pull up a random music track from youtube in a new window! it uses YT links, live, from the music page. I should be able to leverage some of this code for a YT link-checker also.

Ramon (talk) 15:07, 7 March 2021 (EST)

I attempted to tag all the shows with the show category and a show by date category with dates as the sort key. I may have missed one or two.

Ramon (talk) 14:49, 6 March 2021 (EST)

I added a "Random show" button, but still need to tag 1/2 the shows with the hidden category Show. It will give you a random show, but as of this evening only selecting from the first half of his career.

Ramon (talk) 18:46, 5 March 2021 (EST)

Tragically, the special word {{PAGENAME}} will not work with the new dynamic page list module, so I removed all traces of it.

Ramon (talk) 12:08, 3 March 2021 (EST)

I reverted to my birth name

Ramon (talk) 09:32, 3 March 2021 (EST)

Took some words out of the first sentence of the program pages.

Renamed Interesting Facts to Miscellanea, to manage expectations.

Added a new section, Shared material, with bulleted links to shows even if they are already mentioned elsewhere on the page.

And Additional credits, which are in quotes when transcribed from a broadcast. If they are from Joefrank.com or by ear, a bulleted list is good. Where these disagree we can have both, sourced.

I have added YouTube links to all the song templates

I added a module that allows users to create their own custom sidebar menu

To add a custom sidebar, create [[User:<YourUsername>/Sidebar]]. Some sample markup: two asterisks, Page_Title pipe display text, so

 ** The_Joe_Frank_Music_Page|Music page

will add a link to the music page with the link text "Music page"

It should appear directly below the 'Site updates' link.

I added a youtube module, you just:

 <youtube> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ4T9CQA0UM <youtube>

Not sure how I feel about it. I used it on Summer_Notes_(Short_Film)

I need to update the chronology of the early shows on their individual pages

I added a mobile front end, which includes a new skin and re-organization of some elements of the pages while on mobile devices.

I added broadcast dates for early shows based on data from worldcat

I added two previously unknown early shows found via worldcat

The software is now the latest version. I will continue to update it, hopefully upgrading the search results and other modules - those are set

I also aim to fix all the red links from the Other_(series) and add Remixes where they are missing from the series lists and chronology.

Apologies in advance for any Internal Server errors that are thrown as I update modules. if/when server errors occur give it 30 seconds and try your action again.

It appears some pages were lost in the upgrade, these pages appear on AllPages but have no content. Seem to only be pages which haven't touched since the wiki was moved in 2011. I put the previous version of the site back online so I can grab those were I need to. It is at old.jfwiki.org The workaround for these pages, which won't allow you to edit them, is to delete and recreate them.

I also changed the default timezone to eastern Ramon (talk) 13:23, 22 February 2021 (EST)
